The problem
Rooftop solar pays off slowly, and a lot of its value leaks away. When panels generate more power than a home uses, that surplus usually flows back to the grid for a fraction of what it is worth, while neighbours who would happily buy clean local energy have no way to. The return on a solar investment ends up far smaller than it should be.
What we did
PhotoVolta is a peer-to-peer energy trading platform. It lets solar owners measure their unused energy and trade it directly within a local network, at market rates, with no utility in the middle. Smart meters track generation automatically and blockchain smart contracts record every transaction transparently in real time, so a neighbourhood can effectively run its own clean-energy marketplace.
The outcome
A way for solar owners to turn surplus power into savings or income, and for communities to keep clean energy local, now launching in Canadian neighbourhoods.
