How it started
myWaves’ founders came to us with something rare and something unfinished at the same time. The rare part was the method behind it, neuro-acoustic transduction, conceived by neuroscientists Dr. Alain Destexhe and Luc Foubert at France’s CNRS and patented in 2017 under WO2018/197155 and US20200138322A1. It reads a sleeper’s own delta waves, the 0.5 to 4 Hz rhythms of deep sleep, parametrises each one by amplitude, rise, decay, duration and timing, then encodes that signature back into a personalised sound sequence designed to work with the brain’s own sleep response. Around half an hour of listening a night is all it asks of the person using it.
The unfinished part was everything else. The science ran as a loose piece of code on a single laptop. There was no platform, no product, no team, and nothing anyone could buy. Alongside it a hardware engineer was building the Pebble, a forehead-worn EEG sensor meant to capture those signals outside a lab.
The problem
Most people chase sleep one of two ways, and both fall short. Supplements and sedatives can knock you out but leave you groggy and dependent, and the generic sleep audio bundled into every app is made for an average listener who does not exist. No two brains are alike, so a single soundtrack was never going to work. The science to do better already existed. What did not exist was any way to put it in someone’s hands.
What we did
The science was theirs. What they needed was everything standing between a working method and a product somebody could buy.
We rebuilt the research code into a production platform, then built the data pipeline that carries a person from sensor to sound: capturing each night’s delta-wave readings off the Pebble, running the parametrisation, generating that individual’s soundscape, and delivering it back to them. Around it came the consumer mobile app, the enterprise applications behind it, the integrations that tie the stack together, and the website the business runs on. We automated the logistics that get hardware into customers’ hands and the onboarding that lets the company take on volume without adding headcount for every new customer. We advised on the custom hardware that became the Pebble.
The work reached the patented method itself. Adapting the code behind it opened up ground the original patent did not cover, and the company now has two further patents pending on the back of it.
None of that is the science. All of it is the distance between a laboratory result and a product on sale.
The outcome
A patented, non-invasive, chemical-free sleep solution with a complete hardware and software stack and a real business behind it, now reaching customers across London and the US. The technology has since travelled well beyond the bedroom, used by rugby teams around the world including the United States women’s national side, and shown at CES 2026. The founders arrived with clinically promising code on a laptop and came away with a company they could scale and sell into. No pills, no grogginess, just rest built from a person’s own biology.
