The problem
Every year Canada sends huge volumes of coffee waste to landfill, where it breaks down and releases emissions instead of being put to use. Cafes have no easy way to divert that waste, and the regenerative farms and biochar producers who could use it have no reliable channel to source it. The result is a valuable resource thrown away and a loop left open.
What we did
We helped build JavaLoop, an AI-powered platform that closes the coffee waste loop. It connects cafes with regenerative farms and biochar producers, then uses AI to optimise collection logistics, forecast biochar potential, and turn waste inputs into measurable value. The platform makes it practical to route coffee waste from cafes to the producers who can convert it into biochar and richer soil, rather than landfill.
The outcome
A working network that keeps coffee waste out of landfill and channels it into regenerative farming and carbon-storing biochar.
