The problem
Most patents never make any money. Intellectual property is hard to value, harder to sell, and the licensing process is slow, opaque, and expensive. Patent holders sit on portfolios they cannot easily monetise, while the businesses that could use that technology have no simple way to find it or strike a deal.
What we did
IPExchange is a blockchain-powered marketplace for licensing intellectual property. Holders list their patents, set their own terms and royalty rates, and keep the sensitive details private until a buyer is approved. Smart contracts handle the agreement and automate enforcement, while digital identity verification and an immutable record keep both sides protected. It opens Canadian patents up to a global pool of buyers, turning a slow, lawyer-heavy negotiation into a transparent transaction.
The outcome
A secure, transparent way to put idle intellectual property to work, connecting patent holders with the businesses that want to license their technology.
