The problem

Most telemedicine is just a video call, which does little to ease the load on the health system and is poor at the things that matter for diagnosis. Skin, eyes, and the tongue are among the clearest early indicators of disease, but a video chat cannot capture them reliably or in consistent colour, so patients still end up paying for specialist visits to get answers.

What we did

HDScan turned an ordinary smartphone camera into a screening tool. We helped develop a patented, custom AI model, informed by traditional tongue-reading signals from Chinese medicine, that reads a simple selfie of the tongue to flag possible tongue and oral cancer and other early warning signs, correcting for lighting and skin tone so results stay consistent. A full, anonymised report is shared straight with the patient’s physician.

The outcome

A patented, selfie-simple way to catch serious conditions early. The venture has since exited.
